Whenever I run into someone who thinks the Beattles were just the bubblegum pop band of the early 60's, I point them to the songs from Abby Road. From the first note of 'Come Together" the Beatles announce that they are at the absolute zenith of their musicianship, song writing and instrumentation. Legendary Beattles producer George Martin said "There's far more of me on Abbey Road than on any of their other albums". Martin's influence is all over the album and all of the Beatles seem to have taken every ounce of what they learned from Martin to produce an absolute materpiece.

This album is a statement, an artifact of the time, evidence of the maturation of the band and exhibit one that rock and roll as an art form had fully arrived.

The songs are flawless and their arrangement into an album take the listener on a ride which rides the gammit of emotions the funky "Come Together' to the humor of 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and 'Octopus's Garden" to the pure beauty of "Sun King" and "Here Comes the Sun' every song tells a story. Each of the band members contributes some of their best work and it seems to be determined to leave a document of the very best of what the Beatles had become.

I'm sure that as I review some of the other Beatles albums on the list I might feel like these other albums might meet or surpass 'Abby Road", but after this listening I am convince this is not only the best of the Beatles but my Number 1 album of all time.#5 The Beatles - Abby Road
