A fantastic story of a young man named Piscine Molitor Patel, but is known to his family as Pi. He is a very smart and curious young man. I especially like the beginning of the book when Pi, who was fascinated by religion, is caught out going to Islamic temple on Fridays, Synagogue on Saturdays and Christian church on Sundays. Each religious leader comes to his house in turn telling his parents he is the most devout of their worshipers.

Pi's family owns a zoo and is moving from India to Canada on a ship with all the animals. It is a wonderful story which turns fantastical as Pi attempts to survive when the ship sinks and he finds himself stuck on a lifeboat with a tiger named Richard Parker.

The story is told as Pi relates his taleto a Japanese insurance agent from the company covering the ship which sank. As he tells the story, the agent finds his story more and more unbelievable. One of my all time favorite books.
