This is a semi-autobiographical novel by Kurt Vonnegut about a prisoner of War during World War II named Billy Pilgrim. Pilgrim and his companion, Roland Weary are captured by the Germans and kept at a prison camp called Schlachthof-fünf (Slaughterhouse Five).

Throughout his time in camp Billy becomes "unstuck in time" as he begins hallucinating from his confinement. The device of getting unstuck in time and the philosophy of the Tralfamadorians made it possible to tell a simple story in a really interesting way. In a strange way it made me think that Vonnegut was making the point that there is no narrative to life, while at the same time weaving an interesting narrative. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those books that I like more and more as I reflect on it.
