This section is devoted to my quest to finish reading the books on a list I encountered a number of years ago, 1000 Books to Read Before You Die. When I retired a few years back, I wondered what I would do with my time. I thought about this list and decided to give it a try. My mom is 93 years old, and I am about to turn 63. I looked at the list and marked off the books I had already read, and calculated that if I lived as long as my mom, I would need to read 32 books a year to finish the list. In 2024, I was able to read 32 books so far.

So this part of my blog is a record of my journey through literature, as defined by a list put together by some unknown person who has curated my journey.

I must confess that my journey is being aided by technology and Audible.com as I am listening to, rather than reading these books in the traditional sense. I have justified this in my mind as the sharing of literature and stirytelling has been an oral (and aural) tradition for a very long time. It was common in the 18th and 19th centuries for families to read to one another as an entertainment, so many of these novels have been shared that way for generations.

So come along on my journey. I will link each of the novels to Amazon.com where you can find them for yourself or do as I do, and check them out on Audible.com where most of the books I've "read" so far are availible for free.
